🛹 Campaign Rollout Case Study: Mission Possible Mongu

Updated: 6 days ago

From Baltimore to Zambia: How We Helped a Zambian Skateboarding Phenom Rally Global Support in Just 3 Weeks

🌍 Client Snapshot

Meet WeSkate Mongu — a youth-led nonprofit based in Mongu, Zambia, founded by then-23-year-old skateboarding phenom and Mandela Washington Fellow, Johnny Kalenga. His mission? To empower the next generation through skateboarding, purpose, and play.

As Zambia geared up for its second-ever national skateboarding championship at Lukaba Hande — the country’s only skatepark, built by WeSkate and its supporters — Johnny was thousands of miles away in the U.S. wrapping up his Mandela Fellowship, determined to return with at least two skateboards to support the skaters competing.

With time running out, he partnered with a few mission-driven changemakers, including IEI Agency’s founder Tab Wolod, who stepped in to lead a fast-moving grassroots campaign that captured hearts, stories, and global support.

What Johnny did have? Heart. Hustle. And one bold dream:

To return home with something that would make his people proud.

🚧 Identifying the Challenge

Johnny was determined not to leave the States empty-handed. With the championship rapidly approaching, Johnny's ask was for 2 skateboards to take back with him.

Instead, we launched a campaign that ignited global generosity.

We had just 3 weeks to:

CLIENT CHALLENGES

  1. Rally awareness around a grassroots cause

  1. Drive urgent donations (gear + funds)

  1. Ensure everything landed in Zambia before the championship

No pressure, right?

Our Approach & Key Deliverables:

We didn’t just launch a fundraiser — we launched a movement.

Mission Possible Mongu, coined by social impact leader Paulo Gregory, was more than a name—it was a call to action. With just three weeks on the clock, we pulled together a grassroots campaign that made global waves.

Campaign Strategy

Positioning: WeSkate Mongu, a Zambian-Based Non-Profit Organization, Appeals for Urgent Support Ahead of Zambia's Nationwide Skateboarding Championship.” We mapped out a tight, high-impact 3-week rollout designed to stir hearts, drive urgency, and move people from scrolling to giving.

Here's what we rolled out:

🎥 Content Creation

  • Rolled out 20+ custom graphics, reels, and IG story drops

  • Built 2 campaign landing pages (donation hub + story page)

  • Wrote scroll-stopping captions + direct CTAs across all channels

We told a story people had to support.

🤝 Community Activation

  • Mobilized skaters from Baltimore, D.C., and beyond

  • Amplified Johnny’s journey to connect with U.S. + global audiences

  • Set up local donation drop sites for gear and supplies

Real people, real impact, real fast.

📦 Logistics & Delivery

  • Supported shipping coordination (gear, boards, and donations)

  • Created thank-you graphics and impact visuals post-campaign

  • Advised Johnny on how to keep the momentum going

We didn’t just help him show up—we helped him show out.
